His Majesty, the Fon of Fontem, delivered a compelling address at the 2025 LECDA-USA convention held in Tucson, Arizona, emphasizing the critical role of unity and development for the Lebialem Division.
The Fon began by acknowledging the presence of other traditional rulers, including His Majesties Fon Folewoh, Fon Fonjumetaw, Fon Foreke, Fon Foto, and all attending chiefs, as well as the ladies and gentlemen present. He extended warm greetings from the people of Fontem, who expressed their delight and gratitude for the support provided by the diaspora over the past eight challenging years. “On behalf of the people back home and personally, I truly appreciate all that you have been doing,” he said.
Reflecting on the theme of the convention, “Achieving the Lebialem Paradise Through Unity and Development: The Role of the Lebialem Fons,” the Fon broke down the meaning of each key word:
Paradise – an ideal place or state.
Unity – the state of being one or joined together.
Development – the process of growth, progress, and improvement in various aspects of human life, society, and the environment.
“The theme calls on the Lebialem Fons to bring the people together in pursuit of an ideal state, promoting collective growth, progress, and improvement in every aspect of life,” he explained.
He stressed the importance of collaboration among the fondoms. “We must stop acting as if we are competing with one another. To achieve unity and development, we must think, act, and work as one. Our focus should extend beyond individual fondoms to the welfare of the entire Lebialem Division,” he emphasized.
Highlighting the responsibilities of traditional rulers, he said, “Our role as Fons is to lead our people on the path of unity and encourage them to consider the broader interests of the division rather than just local matters.”
His Majesty noted the presence of five Fons at the convention, representing the 17 fondoms of Lebialem. “Although one fondom was absent, the participation of these Fons demonstrates our commitment to unity. Traveling all the way from Cameroon to Tucson shows that we are dedicated to a one and indivisible Lebialem.”
He also recognized the efforts of the Lebang community, urging those present to share the message of unity, peace, and development with those who were unable to attend. “Please carry this message to those not here and encourage them to join LECDA-USA,” he appealed.
In closing, the Fon reaffirmed his commitment to the prosperity of Lebialem and called for continued support from the diaspora. “I count on your support, as you have always supported me in our shared endeavors. Together, we can build a stronger, united, and prosperous Lebialem,” he concluded.
