The Mayor of Menji Council, Dr. Nkemasong Nicasuis, delivered an inspiring address at the 2025 LECUDO-USA convention in Boston USA, emphasizing the development of Menji Council, the Lebang Fondom, and the broader Fontem Subdivision.

Dr. Nicasuis began by expressing his gratitude to the convention organizers for inviting him, noting that it was a significant honor to personally greet the Menji community in Boston. “As the Mayor of Menji Council, the heart of our council lies in Lebang,” he stated. “Hearing that this mighty convention was taking place here in the USA, I prioritized attending, even rescheduling my flight back to Cameroon, to ensure I could convey our greetings and support directly.”

He also acknowledged the presence of the Fon of Fontem, His Majesty Asabatong Njifua II, praising the monarch for his dedication to the people. “It brings us joy to witness your efforts in guiding and uniting your sons and daughters, flying across the world to support the community,” the mayor remarked.

Highlighting the strength of the Lebang community, Dr. Nicasuis reflected on the convention’s turnout and energy, noting, “No other fondom holding a convention in the USA could boast such a strong presence. This demonstrates the commitment of our people and the impact of your collective actions.”

The mayor commended the initiatives led by LECUDO-USA, citing their health campaigns and educational support. “Thanks to LECUDO-USA, I was able to undergo my own medical check and even see a historical photograph of the person after whom I am named. Beyond healthcare, your support in education—maintaining schools and fostering research—continues to bring pride to our municipality.”

Dr. Nicasuis also celebrated infrastructure developments in the region, including roads connecting Mbin-Belua, Takwe, and Atoangeh, recognizing the role of both the Menji Council and the Lebang people in these achievements. He emphasized that Fontem Subdivision, central to the council area, remains pivotal to the overall development of Lebialem Division.

“Our administration ensures that the mighty kingdom of Lebang receives its fair share of development,” he affirmed, highlighting that since his mandate began, Lebang has received 72.8% of development resources due to its population and strategic significance. He urged cohesion between LECUDO-USA and the local council, emphasizing collaboration, unity, and peace as essential to sustaining progress.

Acknowledging existing challenges, Dr. Nicasuis pledged to address inefficiencies in resource utilization. “The government has invested over 945 million FCFA in the Lebang Fondom over the past five years. Some projects have succeeded, others less so—but we are committed to correcting these issues to ensure that development truly benefits our people.”

The mayor also raised concerns about population decline in Lebang and Fontem Subdivision, noting that for infrastructure projects to be impactful, residents must return and actively engage in local economic activities. “Development without people to sustain it risks being wasted. Encouraging investment and resettlement is crucial to ensure that our roads, markets, and facilities are fully utilized,” he emphasized.

In conclusion, Dr. Nicasuis thanked LECUDO-USA and all attendees for their contributions, stressing that their efforts are critical to advancing the welfare of the Lebang people and the Menji Council at large.

He ended with words of unity and appreciation for the leadership of His Majesty, Fon of Fontem, Asabatong Njifua II, for his unwavering guidance.
