LEWOH, Alou Subdivision – Lebialem Division, South West Region, Cameroon, The Lewoh community in Alou Subdivision of Lebialem Division offered a warm and colorful welcome to Paul Tasong Njukang, Minister Delegate to the Minister of Economy, Planning and Regional Development in charge of Planning, during an official visit to the Fondom.
The event brought together traditional authorities, political leaders, administrative officials, and members of the local population. Present at the gathering were His Royal Majesty the Fon of Lewoh, notables, youths, women’s groups, and chiefs from across the Lewoh Fondom, alongside several political personalities from the division.
The reception was marked by vibrant cultural displays as various traditional dance groups performed throughout the ceremony, showcasing the rich cultural heritage of the Lewoh people. Women’s associations and youth cultural troupes entertained guests with rhythmic drumming, traditional songs, and colorful attire in honor of the visiting minister and other dignitaries.
Addressing the crowd, Minister Paul Tasong Njukang began by extending greetings to key administrative authorities, particularly the Senior Divisional Officer for Lebialem, whose leadership he commended. He also acknowledged the presence of the Divisional Officer for Alou, highlighting the important role of collaboration between the administration and local communities in promoting development and stability.
Special tribute was paid to the women of Lewoh, as the visit took place during preparations for the celebration of International Women’s Day. The minister praised the dedication of women in community development and encouraged them to continue contributing actively to peace and socio-economic progress in the division.
Minister Tasong Njukang clarified that the visit formed part of a broader tour conducted under the activities of the Permanent Divisional Delegation for Lebialem Division, while also reflecting his personal commitment as a son of the division to support development initiatives and strengthen ties with local communities.
He acknowledged the presence of several political and administrative figures, including Hon. Bernard Foju, Member of Parliament for the area; the Mayor of Alou Council; and Senator Fon Lekunze, the Fon of Bamumbu Fondom. The minister also recognized the contributions of development actors and community leaders working toward rebuilding communities in Lebialem.
During the event, Minister Tasong Njukang paid special tribute to Professor Ivo Leke Tambo, describing him as a symbol of resilience for the people of Lebialem following the socio-political crisis that affected the region. According to the minister, Professor Tambo’s experiences and continued engagement in development efforts demonstrate the determination of the Lebialem people to overcome challenges and rebuild their communities.
The minister also greeted members of the Permanent Divisional Delegation, including Mathias Njilefack, while extending apologies on behalf of Dr. Khobena Boniface Fontem, who was unable to attend the ceremony.
He further acknowledged party structures within the subdivision, including the CPDM Section President for Lebialem II, as well as leaders of the YCPDM and WCPDM sections. In addition, he congratulated Nico Fomenky, the newly appointed member of the South West Regional Assembly, recognizing his long-standing contribution to public administration.
In a moment of reflection, Minister Tasong Njukang paid tribute to the late Dr. Andrew Tazi, a respected figure within the community whose passing, he noted, was deeply felt across Lebialem. He expressed regret that he was unable to attend the burial due to official commitments outside the country.
The minister also used the occasion to encourage responsible political engagement and the use of appropriate administrative channels when addressing governance or development concerns. He emphasized that established institutional platforms, including the offices of the Senior Divisional Officer and Divisional Officers, should be used to resolve issues affecting communities.
The ceremony concluded with continued cultural performances and expressions of appreciation from community leaders and residents. Traditional authorities and members of the population thanked the minister for the visit and reaffirmed their commitment to working with government authorities and development partners to promote peace, unity, and development in Lewoh and across Lebialem Division.
