Menji, Cameroon, 30 December 2025 — The Menji Municipal Council on Tuesday officially adopted its 2026 budget, marking a major step toward strengthening municipal infrastructure and service delivery. The session, chaired by the Lord Mayor, brought together councillors, development stakeholders, and the Senior Divisional Officer (SDO) for Lebialem.
Budget Overview
The 2026 budget totals 1.703 billion CFA francs, an increase of 184.7 million CFA francs (10.84%) compared to 2025’s 1.518 billion CFA francs. Council officials attributed the rise primarily to the planned Phase Two construction of the Menji Council Chambers, which will include fencing, landscaping, a water tower, and enhanced security measures that were not covered in the first phase.
“The first phase only constructed the building. Now, to ensure functionality and security, we propose a second phase financed through a new loan since the council has no outstanding debts,” the Lord Mayor said.
Commitment to Responsible Governance
Council leaders emphasized that the budget remains balanced in revenue and expenditure, reflecting a commitment to transparent fiscal management. Discussions focused on key developmental priorities, including improving educational infrastructure, access to potable water, electricity supply, and social services, especially as displaced residents gradually return to the municipality.
The session concluded with a reaffirmation of Menji Council’s mission to promote sustainable growth, strengthen governance, and deliver essential services to the community in 2026.
