Menji, Cameroon, 30 December 2025 — The Senior Divisional Officer (SDO) for Lebialem has urged municipal officials to return to Menji, citing that prolonged absence of leadership undermines local governance and service delivery.
Administrative Presence Essential
Speaking at the Ordinary Council Session, the SDO criticized the non-residence of some councillors and executive officers, stating that the town’s challenges — including water management and civic order — are exacerbated when officials are absent.
In response, the Lord Mayor announced that all council workers must resume duties in Menji by 5 January 2026, warning that unauthorized absences would result in sanctions.
Recognition for Cleanliness
Despite administrative hurdles, Menji Municipality received national recognition. The Ministry of Housing and Urban Development awarded the council for being the cleanest town among the three subdivisions of Lebialem, accompanied by a 3 million CFA francs prize presented through the Divisional Delegate for Housing.
Revenue Challenges and Growth
Officials noted that only 2–3% of the municipal budget is internally generated, with the remainder sourced from state allocations and external partners. The council emphasized the need for improved revenue mobilization to strengthen financial autonomy and support sustainable development.
“The town is growing and evolving,” the Lord Mayor said. “We encourage the mayor and executive team to continue strengthening municipal administration, service delivery, and community development.”
